Start Your Scottish Hiking Holiday at Loch Rannoch Forest

An area of outstanding natural beauty in the depths of the Scottish Highlands, Loch Rannoch Forest serves up one of Pitlochry’s best-loved routes, and is a popular choice for beginners looking to break gently into their first Scotland hiking break.

The 180m ascent through dense forestry is well waymarked, meaning you’ll be able to spend less time thinking about your route and more time enjoying the surroundings, packed as they are with wonderful Scots pines, lavish bracken, and the rare chance to glimpse Scotland’s wildlife in all their splendour.

Highlights of the Loch Rannoch Forest Walk include a captivating waterfall whispering gently into the rolling forestry, and views across Glen Lyon into the Scottish Highlands that are sure to stop you in your tracks.

Experienced Hikers: Conquer a New Challenge on Your Next Hiking Break in Scotland

For those of you looking for something a little more challenging from your Scottish hiking break, the demanding Craigower and Clunie walks are both just a short distance from our all suite hotel near Pitlochry, whilst Ben Vorlich and the seriously arduous  Beinn a’Chuallaich present an exciting challenge to even the most seasoned of hiking veterans.

Many of our guests chose to conquer Scotland’s Munros, a list of Scottish mountains over 3,000 ft (914.4 m), which are named after Sir Hugh T Munro, who surveyed and catalogued them in 1891. Our nearest munro’s to be bagged is Schiehallion which is one of the easier Munros to climb. The mountain of Ben Nevis, the highest Munro at 4,411 ft (1,345 m), can be reached by train from Rannoch Station which takes just over the hour.
