Traditional Scottish highland games providing a day of fun for the whole family
What is it?
Looking for a truly authentic Scottish experience on your summer holiday this year? Look no further than the celebrated Perth Highland Games, a highly enjoyable day packed with traditional Scottish events, music, and more. The first Perth ‘Highland Games and Sports Carnival’ were held in 1925, although they did not become a yearly event until 1977.
Each year, the Games feature an array of famous heavyweight events, including tossing of the caber, hammer throwing, and sheaf tossing, all of which you’re invited to take part in. But these games are more than just a tourist attraction, and are a key feature in the Scottish track and field sports calendar.
Prefer to simply sit back, relax, and soak in the unique atmosphere at this highlight of Perth’s social calendar? There’s plenty to keep you entertained. Scottish pipe bands, country dancing, bagpipe competitions, and an assortment of rides, amusements and activities for children all guarantee that the Perth Highland Games will be a hit on your next summer family holiday in Scotland.

Other local Highland Games take place throughout the summer, including the famous Rannoch Highland Gathering, a stone’s throw away from our hotel in Kinloch Rannoch.
