Something spectacular is happening just down the way from our Kinloch Rannoch hotel, as Pitchlochry’s celebrated Highland Nights return for the summer season.
A series of special evenings taking place from May to September, Pitlochry Highland Nights see the town come alive with a vibrant programme of traditional Scottish music, dance and entertainment.
For those of you taking a short break in Scotland with us this summer, the events are an absolute must, serving as a unique opportunity to experience authentic Scottish culture up close and personal, all whilst taking in the truly remarkable surroundings of picturesque Perthshire.
To help you make the most of the occasion, the team here at the Dunalastair Hotel Suites have put together this complete guide, containing everything you could possibly need to know the highlight of the Highland’s summer calendar.
When are Pitlochry Highlands Nights 2017?
Taking place just less than forty minutes away from our Kinloch Rannoch hotel in nearby Pitlochry, the famous Highland Nights return this Monday, May 29th, and continue on every Monday evening throughout the summer until September 4th, 2017.
Spectators are invited to get settled on the recreation ground from 7.15pm.
Five minutes later, the acclaimed Vale of Atholl Pipe Band will begin marching their way to the ground from the centre of Pitlochry, all the while playing their own stirring renditions of traditional Scottish classics.
The show itself then takes place until 9.15PM, featuring a wealth of Highland entertainment and occasional guests, more of which later.
Finally, a long standing traditional at Highland Nights sees the audience invited to march behind the band and follow them back into Pitlochry.
What takes place at the show?
The jewel in the crown of Highland Perthshire’s summer calendar since they were first established back in the mid-1960s, Pitlochry Highland Nights see event organisers from the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band taking centre stage for a rousing evening of entertainment.
Each Monday evening, they are joined at the Pitlochry Recreation Ground by an ensemble cast of Scottish country dancers, local musicians and vocalists, and the esteemed Vale of Atholl Junior Pipe Band.
Expect inspired interpretations of both traditional and contemporary classics, all performed among the kind of warm and amiable atmosphere that Highland Perthshire is renowned for.
What should I bring with me?
Though you may only be gone from your hotel near Pitlochry for a few hours, organisers do recommend wrapping up warm and, where possible, taking a blanket and cushion to keep yourself comfortable throughout the evening.
What does it cost?
As affordable, family-friendly entertainment goes, it doesn’t get much better than Perthshire’s premier Highland Nights event.
Admission is payable on entry, and costs just £7 for adults. Children’s entry costs £1 for outdoor seating, or £4 for indoors.
Programmes are also available at just £1 each, with purchase entering you into a draw to win a bottle of Highland whiskey from one of Pitlochry’s best loved distilleries.
Is There Anything Else I Need to Know About Pitlochry Highland Nights 2017?
Yes. If you’re visiting our Perthshire hotel in either mid May or early August, you’re in for an extra special treat.
On Monday, May 15th, the City of Leeds Pipe Band will be heading to Highland Perthshire, joining the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band for a unique Highland Ceilidh.
Details and information of this can’t-miss event can be found on the official Highland Nights website at: www.highlandnight.com
Later in the season, on Monday, August 7th, the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band will be flying in all the way from Canada to add an international flavour to this most uniquely Scottish of occasions.
